Hello! We’re Rodney and Marcelle — Husband and wife, captains, dog parents, and the heart behind Cherrywood Lane Getaway. We first met while working in Alaska’s adventure cruise industry, where we shared a deep love for Seward’s wild beauty and a vision for something lasting. Over time, that vision evolved into a plan, and then this patch of woods became the site of a home we built for ourselves and fellow travelers seeking something genuine.
We poured ourselves into every inch of this place. Cherrywood Lane reflects our story and values, from the beams of the cabins to the tracks beneath the railcars. We’re not about short-term profit or cookie-cutter rentals. We’re here to create something that endures.

The Beginning: From Tiny Cabin to Gathering Place
Cherrywood Lane began with one small cabin — just big enough for us and our vision.
Cherrywood Lane began with a single small cabin. It was only big enough for the two of us, but housed a whole lot of hope. The walls weren’t fancy, but the windows framed Alaska’s spruce forests like artwork, and the mornings started with birdsong and hot coffee. It was a quiet place, surrounded by nature and filled with promise. That first cabin wasn’t just our home. It was our start. We didn’t have a master plan, but we had a feeling we followed. When friends visited, they felt it, too: something special, something grounded. So, we kept going–bit by bit, cabin by cabin.
We built slowly, using our own hands and whatever time and energy we could carve out between working full-time jobs. Eventually, more visitors came: families, couples, hikers, and train enthusiasts. With each build, Cherrywood Lane transformed into more than a place to sleep. It became a destination for memory-making. We were the construction team.
We built every inch of Cherrywood Lane with our own hands. We dug holes, carried lumber, and cut siding boards right on the porch. The vintage train cars, now serving as unforgettable lodging, were sourced, carefully restored, and craned onto the property. That was one wild day we’ll never forget! Designing these unique nightly rental cabins in Questa Woods, Seward, wasn’t about speed or convenience, but rather character, quality, and staying true to the original vision. We chose a layout that invites relaxation without sacrificing authenticity, thanks to our rustic features and cozy interiors. Each space, from our cabins to our train cars, reflects what we value: simplicity, creativity, and a personal touch. This land has grown with us, and it holds the energy of every nail driven and every quest welcomed. What started as a humble building is now a place that brings people together, one stay at a time.
